Dialysis Treatment Explained

Dialysis is a treatment that filters and purifies the blood using a machine. This helps keep your body in balance when the kidneys can’t do their job. Dialysis has been used since the 1940s to treat people with kidney problems. Properly functioning kidneys prevent extra water, waste, and other impurities from accumulating in your body.

They also help control blood pressure and regulate the levels of chemicals in the blood, such as sodium, or salt, and potassium. They even activate a form of vitamin D that improves the absorption of calcium.

When your kidneys can't perform these functions due to disease or injury, dialysis can help keep the body running as normally as possible. Below are the different modalities of Dialysis we provide:

Peritoneal Dialysis

This is a treatment for patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). It uses the patient’s peritoneum in the abdomen as a membrane across which fluids and dissolved substances (electrolytes, urea, glucose, albumin and other small molecules) are exchanged from the blood.

Fluid is introduced through a permanent tube in the abdomen and flushed out either every night while the patient sleeps (cycler automatic peritoneal dialysis) or via regular exchanges throughout the day (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis).

This is an option for patients requiring dialysis that allows them to perform dialysis at home and thus maintaining patient autonomy, free time and flexibility.

Home Hemodialysis

Home hemodialysis (HHD) is the provision of hemodialysis in the home of people with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

Home hemodialysis offers greater freedom, flexibility, and convenience with dialysis at home and fewer required office visits.

Kidney Transplant Management

Kidney Transplantation is the preferred treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in most patients. Not all patients are eligible for a kidney transplant. Eligibility is determined by a team of professionals involved in the various transplant programs.

We are active and committed with the care of kidney transplant patients. We work in close conjunction with the patient's transplant center in this management.
